When Jeff Goldblum replaced Chris Noth last year on Law & Order: Criminal Intent fans were concerned about what they considered a lighter tone and significant cast changes that followed. In a recent interview, Goldblum talked about his new partner, claims that the show has become The Jeff Goldblum Hour, and offered words of encouragement to wavering fans.
Jeff Goldblum on Saffron Burrows
This season, Goldblum’s detective Zach Nichols will get a new partner, played by Saffron Burrows. The British actress is best known for her work in films like Deep Blue Sea and Troy. She follows up the short-lived series My Own Worst Enemy with her new role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
When asked about the new team, Goldblum replied: “We’ve done several cases together. And we work beautifully together, very dynamically. I think she’s great… And it’s, as much as anything, even given the dark and horrific and nightmarish circumstances that we’re always faced with, dead bodies and gruesome places and gruesome events, we seem to both get a thrill out of the fun and the adventure of the hunt, hunting down the bad guy.”
He continued to describe the basis of their chemistry saying, “But it’s beside that, a personal thrill for me... And a personal kind of side and overall contextualizing investigation to deepen my understanding of the deeply criminal types and thereby all of us and me. I’m on a kind of psycho spiritual investigation that fascinates me and that’s infinitely mysterious. And she and I become partners in that. And it’s absolutely thrilling.”
Jeff Goldblum Talks About the Atmosphere on the Law & Order Set

In addition, series’ stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Eric Bogosian left the show. Goldblum discussed the atmosphere on set amidst the changes, “It was all different cast members [last] year. But the stories and the quality of the writing and the high quality of the production and the crew is still the same. So it feels familiar but… I miss the cast members who are gone… But it does feel like a new show in a lot of ways.”
Has Law & Order Become The Goldblum Hour?
Die hard Law & Order fans have complained that the series has become The Jeff Goldblum Hour. They worry that the show is forgoing the darker edge that had made it a success. Goldlum understands concerns but defended the show saying, “I’m doing the best that I can and I know the writers are trying—there are some very heavy and gruesome episodes that we’ve done.”
Still, Goldblum doesn’t deny the show’s lighter tone admitting, “But it’s true. I think part of their idea about my character is that... I’m very passionate for the work… Even in these gruesome circumstances... It feels like an opportunity to Zack Nichols to find what’s important in life and find the deeper meanings in life in a very enjoyable way. And I like solving the puzzle, too.”
Jeff Goldblum Reassures the Fans
And Goldblum has words of encouragement for disgruntled fans, “I totally understand you’re upset. Those were as fantastic a bunch of characters as I’d ever seen… And I’ll be watching for all of them wherever they go… I’m doing my best and I’m enjoying it no end. And I think the writers, who are terrific, have written different characters but fascinating characters, at least to me…
As to why fans should tune-in, he explains, “I would recommend and as part of this grief counseling of the loss of the old show and the old characters, I would recommend that they consider appreciating Saffron Burrows and Serena Stevens… And then, let me encourage them to get into Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio… She is spectacular, as talented deeply, richly talented and an actor as there is. Given to a rainbow of color choices in her paint box.”
Fans will be able to judge for themselves with the Season 9 premiere of Law & Order: Criminal Intent this Tuesday, March 30 at 10:00 pm on USA Network.

They may be an unlikely on-screen pairing, but earlier today (June 8) Rachel McAdams and Jeff Goldblum were spotted working on their new film “Morning Glory.”

The “Jurassic Park” stud and the “Notebook” babe looked intense and focused as they filmed scenes on the New York City set.

“Morning Glory” is about an old-school anchorman who quits his longtime evening newscast because of its new, gossipy ways and is recruited by a hotshot producer who’s looking to revive a failing morning show.

And it looks like a sure-to-be hit thanks to an ensemble cast that includes Harrison Ford, Patrick Wilson, and Diane Keaton.

Yesterday here producer Frank Marshall, one of the people in charge of getting the long rumored fourth Jurassic Park off the ground, spoke about the future of his dinos. He didn't see one. Marshall made it pretty clear that he didn't see any point in continuing to try and do another movie, and so we all ran out and sadly declared the Jp franchise dead. Not so fast. It seems that even though Marshall is no longer interested in making Jurassic Park 4, Universal Pictures still is. According to Hr, though Universal has decided not to renew it's production deal with Frank Marshall, they still have both he and his producing partner Kathleen Kennedy working on Jurassic Park 4 and Bourne 4 for them. This actually confirms something we heard from one of our sources last week, that Universal is getting involved and is keen to get another dino movie done.

Image Entertainment has acquired US rights from Bleiberg Entertainment to Paul Schrader’s post-war drama Adam Resurrected.

Bleiberg Entertatinment is selling international rights to the story of a former circus impresario in a remote Israeli rehab facility for Holocaust survivors. Jeff Goldblum, Willem Dafoe, Ayelet Zurer from Angels & Demons, and Derek Jacobi star.

The film played in official selection at Berlin following its world premiere at Telluride last autumn. ICM negotiated the deal on behalf of producer Ehud Bleiberg with Image.

“Image brought us the most strategic and aggressive distribution plan for this film,” Bleiberg said. “We are confident Image will fully exploit all channels to bring this film to audiences across the US.”

Jeff Goldblum was on the set of "The Baster" this afternoon (May 14) in New York City. Unfortunately, there weren't any pictures. ;)

There hasn't been too much news on Jeff lately, but I have noticed that - unlike previously - everyone seems to know who "Jeff Goldblum" is now. I don't have to explain... "You know, the tall guy in Jurassic Park... With the glasses?" And I am sure this has to do with his joining the cast of Law and Order. I am very glad he is really in the publics eye again. They were even playing Independence Day at the grocery store rental section yesterday. My congrats to Jeff.

So, a few months ago Jurassic Park 4 was on IMDb with Laura Dern confirmed for a part. Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neil were only rumored. Today, I went to check it again and it's gone. The movie had been rumored for 2009 or 2010, but no plot or title had been confirmed. Now IMDb has removed the page.

Just wondering, does anyone have any news on this? I hope the rumors will pick up again and eventually amount to something. I miss Dr. Malcolm!

JEFF Goldblum, new detective on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," is thrilled to be working in New York.

"First of all, this production is such a well-organized, well-oiled machine. The script comes polished, in perfect shape, hits the design team on time, the sets then get done -- everything is slotted. Nothing's slipshod. They all know exactly what they're doing.

"They pamper me. I have a special trailer. They arrange foods I like. Sometimes they order in from The Pump for my brown rice, egg whites and chicken.

"So when I arrived, they'd already lined up apartments for me to see. And I picked a two-bedroom rental near Chelsea Piers, where we shoot. They even found me a nice cleaning lady who comes in once a week.

"I mean, where else but New York can you find the most diverse people in captivity? I even watched Ric Burns' 1999 PBS project 'New York: A Documentary Film.' It's a box set. Eight parts, including experts like Rudy Giuliani, Ed Koch, Mario Cuomo, who tell you all about New York City. You've got to see it."

Considering he lives in LA and I live here, I wasn't sure I needed lessons on the city but -- being forever kindly and gracious -- I kept my mouth shut.

Although written with its own individual personality, his character essentially is Chris Noth's role. "I didn't know Chris before, but he came to the set to wish me luck. Look, he's done this part a long time, and I'm a humble student of the genre. I was glad to meet him. I'm a fan."

FIRST LOOK: Goldblum's 'CSI'

After the season's over, Jeff is staying put. "I'm shooting 'The Baster' with Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman right here. In fact, after this phone call I have to go over for their costume fitting. Then, 'Morning Glory' with Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton and Rachel McAdams. That shoots here, too. So I have the apartment until the end of summer. I plan to continue spending as much time here as I can."

So he's all set except maybe for a lovely local type lady?

"I'm on my own at the moment. Right now my focus and passion is on this show."

HOLLYWOOD INSIDER: Jeff Goldblum Talks Law & Order: Criminal Intent’s New Detective and More!

Yesterday, Jeff Goldblum took a half-hour out of his busy shooting day to talk with a number of bloggers/journalists about his role as Detective Zach Nichols on the new season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent [USA, Sundays, 9/8C]. Goldblum, it turns out, is as intelligent and intuitive as his character.

Also taking part in the Q&Q session were: Jamie Ruby [Media Blvd], Jamie Steinberg [Starry Constellation], Julie Kissane [popculturemadness.com], Christine Nyholm [Examiner], Joshua Fulghum [totallyher.com], Troy Rogers [thedeadbolt.com], and Zach Oat [televisionwithoutpity.com].

J. Ruby: I actually am not that far from Pittsburgh myself so I’m curious, since I’m interested in it, too, how did you get started in acting?

J. Goldblum: Hello to you from almost Pittsburgh. I always wanted to do it; my parents took us to see some children’s theater I remember, early on at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. Even though I was very little I got kind of the bug. I was very excited being around theater and wondered what are those actors doing backstage and I was very excited about it.

And then there’s this thing in Pittsburgh, I think it’s still going on. It’s at Chatham, Music Day Camp it’s called; in the summers for six weeks between fifth and sixth grades and another year, maybe the year before that, too, during the summers I had the most magical time ever going to this thing and going from softball to arts and crafts and piano. I already had started playing piano then to this drama course. At the end of this drama course actually I took part in this recital and my father, my parents had already wisely said if you find something you love to do that might be a key to your vocation. After this show they cast me as this kind of lead in this funny little show and after that I had such an exhilarating time of it I remember, they were there. They said, “How did you like that?” I was like yes, that was really something and I kept it secret to myself just how much I loved it, but I think from that time on around fifth grade I thought to myself that’s what I want to do.

Then between ninth and tenth and tenth and eleventh grades I went to Carnegie Mellon University and they had six-week sessions for people and I remember looking through the catalog with my parents. They said, “What do you want to do?” There was art and I had painted and taken some art classes and had some talent in that. And I was playing piano. They said, “What do you want to do, this music program here? Do you want to do the art program?” I was like, “What if I did the one for actors?” It had kind of been a secret.

And so I did that, fell wildly more in love, several steps down the road in my soul and heart and blood and system toward being obsessed with and convinced and passionate about being an actor. That kind of stuck and then right after high school went to New York when I was still 17, just before I turned 18 and joined the Neighborhood Playhouse with Sandy Meisner, the great acting teacher, where he was still teaching. That’s how it all started. I started to do plays and movies and like that.

J. Steinberg: You’re known for your dramatic roles and also for your dry sense of humor. I was wondering why you chose to be on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Do you at least get to express some of your sense of humor while you’re doing the show?

J. Goldblum: Yes, such as it is. Maybe I’m funny sometimes, maybe not so funny other times, but yes. They actually write, Dick Wolf has been fantastic, kind, cordial and brilliant, I think. And they have a brilliant staff of writers and producers and they have intendingly built a part that is suited for some of the things that I like to do and can do. That’s what they’ve tried to do and after seeing the first episode that was aired I think there’s some humor in there. Along with the solving the crime and the very passionate part of this character and serious part of the character, I think there’s some humor in it; I’m enjoying some of the funny parts of it.

S. Wiebe: Hello, Jeff, I just want to say first I’ve been following your career since Tenspeed and Brown Shoe and enjoyed practically everything you’ve ever done. Detective Nichols seems to work from an observational point of view, where he’s working on motivations more than just the facts. So he’s kind of a bit intuitive. How would you describe your character if you were actually Nichols describing the character?

J. Goldblum: I’ll take a crack at it. Yes, I think you’re right. I am an intuitive fellow. Of course people know that both my parents were shrinks so I was sort of raised in an atmosphere where there was that interest in the human mechanism and the human psyche and what makes people tick. And yes, I think I’m particularly creative and adventurous and improvisational and spontaneous in my inner impulses and patterns and deeply curious and appetized in the unfathomably mysterious and delicious phenomena that is the human being and who we really are.

And why certainly people go off the rails and commit murder here in New York City, that interests me particularly, and oftentimes I find it’s a mistake of identity and having their ego built around mistakenly and their sense of identity built around some aspect of form, if you will, in their lives, either their careers or their reputations or their bank accounts. That mistake gets them into trouble and they wind up doing risky and awful things in order to pursue that mistaken notion and defend it and help that survive. It’s a bad, but not uncommon disease of the psyche that I find results in murder sometimes. I’m a humble student of that whole subject.

J. Kissane: You actually touched on this before, that you are a skilled piano player. Were you nervous when you were being filmed during a scene where you got to play the piano in an episode?

J. Goldblum: I don’t know how skilled I am, but I did take lessons. Our parents gave us music lessons early on in Pittsburgh and I took to it and loved it. I kind of guess it’s a hobby of mine. I’ve always played piano … I decided on being an actor, I played the ragged cocktail lounges here and there, a couple of jobs while I was still in high school in Pittsburgh and then have always had a piano where I am, where I live and now where I work, too. I just love to play all the time. For the last several years I’ve had a jazz band called the Mildred Spitzer Orchestra in Los Angeles and when I’m off work we book ourselves into places and play gigs around town.

Then, yes, they knew about it a little bit and worked it into the character so my character, Detective Nichols, is able to play a bit and in these couple episodes, one that you saw already, maybe that first episode, and there’s another one where I play. No, I’m not particularly nervous. I get excited and I got excited about it, but I always was sort of thrilled to play. Even when I play gigs these days I have no career aspirations or no fear of criticism. I really do it because I love to do it. Whenever I do it I love to do it, so it was particularly enjoyable for me having it be part of a scene or two.

C. Nyholm: Touching back on expansion of your first question I’m just wondering what you advise young actors today if they wanted to get into the field of acting. How would you start and where would you go?

J. Goldblum: Very good question, advice to, you know I teach, for the last, I’m a humble student of acting myself and part of that studentship is teaching, in fact, I feel like I learn a lot from it. I just love doing it; I could teach every day. I haven’t done it for a while because I’ve been working so often, but one of the things I feel like is relevant and practical to tell my students sometimes, and anybody interested in getting into it, is to, well I like what Stanislavsky said. He said, “Love the art in yourself; not yourself in art.”

So in fact you can begin to discover and investigate whether you are an actor or not, whether you’re in my view, qualified for a life in this profession or in this endeavor by checking yourself out and acting every day, getting plays and scripts and getting together with people and divvying up the parts and acting in one way or another, or writing things. But an actor wants to get up every day and they can’t think of anything particularly more fun to do than getting into a made-up situation and living it out as if it’s real. And having people watch it perhaps and thereby telling those people a story, by acting out these characters in a story. That’s what actors want to do; they don’t necessarily want to be famous or rich or anything else. It’s a very bad gamble if that’s what you’re after. But if your heart is wildly in it so that you can’t think of anything else that could possibly make you happy or happier than getting up every day and acting, playing this crazy game that you make something up and playing pretending as if that’s true; if that’s for you you should start to do it.

And it’s not rocket science. There are a lot of books about it. I had a great teacher, Sandy Meisner, and there’s a book that he wrote kind of chronicling a class that he, his two-year program takes you through. And you can learn many things, but it’s really doing it. If you have a feeling to do it that’s what you might do. And that’s what you start to do. If you make acting a part of your daily life, first of all, that’s a satisfying end in itself. But you might find that you start to get good at it and opportunities may come. If you’re of that sort of temperament you may investigate how to study formally and pursue the profession if that’s of your temperament and all of that.

But I’d say start to act; be a fan. See if you’re a person who loves, is a fan of and a lover of it, a devotee of literature, of material and you say, “I’ve got to do that.” Then start to do it anywhere you can that’s what I would say.

J. Fulghum: It’s an honor to speak with you today.

J. Goldblum: It’s a greater honor for me. That’s a line from a movie; do you know what movie that’s from?

J. Fulghum: Not right off hand.

J. Goldblum: A Woody Allen movie, Love and Death. “It’s a greater honor for me. No, it’s a greater honor for me. No, you must be Don Francisco’s sister.” Yes, that’s from Love and Death. But in fact it’s a greater honor for me.

J. Fulghum: Throughout your career you’ve starred in movies that feature incredible and even monstrous creatures like Jurassic Park and Incident at Loch Ness. Do you have any interest in cryptozoology, which is the study of hidden animals?

J. Goldblum: Not particularly. I don’t have much of an interest in Big Foot or the Loch Ness Monster or dinosaurs that actually might be running around, no. I’ve never heard anything credible that would make me think that any of that stuff actually exists. Even though I love playing in those stories including the dinosaurs, no, in real life I’m not particularly interested in Big Foot or the Loch Ness monster.

T. Rogers: How would the Jeff Goldblum of 20 years ago approach Zach Nichols?

J. Goldblum: Jeff Goldblum 20 years ago might have been, but I was playing that Tenspeed and Brownshoe so I would have been the actor involved perhaps, this is hopefully I wouldn’t have any business with doing anything wrong that would have gotten me involved in a guy who’s investigating murders. But I’ve always been involved with crime stories and if I had been, for instance 20 years ago not inconceivably involved in a part where I might have been playing a detective like this I would have been very interested to talk to Zach Nichols, who’s ostensibly a real and a uniquely brilliant detective, for research purposes.

Here on our set, Criminal Intent we’ve got a guy like that, so the current Jeff Goldblum can talk to this fellow Mike Struck who’s a brilliant real-life detective. I love hearing all his stories and he’s on the set when we do our stories here and he tells us what’s real and if he were playing the part and he were in the actual situation what he’d be thinking, what he’d be doing, how he’d be doing it, and that’s thrilling and fascinating to me. So that’s how I can imagine Jeff Goldblum of yore talking to Zach Nichols if he were real.

Z. Oat: I’m a big fan of Raines and I don’t know if this has been touched on already, but were you disappointed when the show got cancelled and did that influence you at all in considering this part on Law & Order?

J. Goldblum: Let’s see, I have a very, at this point maybe I have a philosophical approach that allows me here and there to be satisfied with whatever happens, believe it or not. Yes, I have my ups and downs and I can be disappointed in one thing or another, but generally speaking whatever happens I will mostly, and you can, it’s not strange to think to look at my life and go, “You’re a lucky guy,” and to mostly feel incredibly grateful. So even during a period when for instance Raines came and Raines went, I just felt incredibly grateful. If they had told me in fact that Raines would have been a six, seven-part miniseries I probably would have signed up and been very happy to do it like that too. I would have been very happy. But I’m always interested in the unexpected and know that things, especially in show business, but in life generally, are inevitably fleeting to one extent. It may be short, it may be long, but there’s no such thing as long. I think all of life is a fleeting proposition, so I’m sort of happy with whatever comes and goes in fact. And I think in loss and in the goings is sometimes the greatest opportunity for expansion.

Anyway, in another way it did give me, it whet my appetite for more cop parts, it’s true, and even before I did Raines I did this … show called The Pillow Man, where I played a detective, a homicide detective in fact. And I had a great time doing that. It was this Mike McDonough play and I was in it with Billy Crudup and Zeljko Ivanek and we had a great time for six months at the Booth Theater in New York. After that I was still very appetized when Raines came along, and after Raines, to do this, and there was sort of some kind of appetizing continuum for me in those things, that’s right.

J. Ruby: So out of all the roles you’ve played, because there’s been a lot, what’s been your favorite and why?

J. Goldblum: My favorite and why. Maybe it’s because I’m trying to get better and I feel like I am, but I currently am pretty in love with this part that I’m doing now. Then I’ve got a couple of, I like the parts at the stage when they’re at the stage of development, so I’m doing a couple more movies right after this, this summer, one called The Baster with Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman, and I’m at the stage where I’m rehearsing it and trying to figure out who the character is and what the part is, and I kind of love that. And then I’m doing this movie with Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton and Rachel McAdams called Morning Glory right after that, and I’m a bit in love with that. I think you have to be. That’s part of the criteria and qualification for taking a part. It has to be a passion and something you’re in love with.

But besides that, having said all that, I did love very much Adam Resurrected that I did this last year with Paul Schrader directing that Willem Dafoe was in and it was a wonderful movie and experience for me. I loved doing that movie, Pittsburgh that I think you can still get on NetFlix, a very handcrafted affair that I sort of cooked up over several years. Besides that, holy cats, many things that I could think of, but those are a few that come to mind.

When Teeter, a talented musician, is found murdered after a night out with his friends [to take in a spelling bee!] – in a neighborhood composed of several different ethnicities, Captain Danny Ross [Eric Bogosian] assigns Detective Megan Wheeler [Julianne Nichols] to the case, along with her new partner, Detective Zach Nichols [Jeff Goldblum]. As their investigation begins, Rafe, another musician who lived in the same warehouse sized loft as Teeter falls down the building’s elevator shaft. Rock Star, this week’s episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent [USA, 9/8C] introduces Goldblum’s Detective Nichols in a way that allows Goldblum to make an indelible first impression – on his new partner, and on the show’s audience.

Nichols arrives at his first crime scene [Teeter] marvelling about the variety of fine ethnic foods he was able to find on his way to work. Wheeler is not amused, but when she questions Ross about him, Ross informs her that, before he took a seven-year leave, he was, “…amazing. Brilliant cop. Very perceptive.” And notes that both Nichol’ parents were shrinks. Where did he go for those seven years? “He sent me a postcard from Cleveland, “says Ross.

Before long though, Nichols wins Wheeler over with his keen eye for detail and a knowledge of people that allows him to reassure a possible suspect that he’s not one by playing a cool jazz improvisation on the late Teeter’s keyboard. He also knows how to spin his questions when dealing with other suspects – like the musicians’ landlord, Philip, whose band played the third-longest set at Woodstock.

Rock Star showcases Goldblum’s character, but allows Nicholson and Bogosian plenty of room to perform as well – though it’s likely that Goldblum’s Nichols will assume the lead role on future investigations. The character may remind of Goldblum’s last series, the brilliant – of too hip for the room – Raines, though minus that character’s imagined conversations with the victims whose murders he was trying to solve. Nichols has that same intensity and ability to learn about people without actually appearing to be doing anything.

Where Vincent D’Onofrio’s Detective Goren is a riff on Sherlock Holmes, Goldblum’s Nichols might be analogous to Freud – Goren is a facts guy, while Nichols is all about motive. The one thing they have in common is that no detail escapes them. They differ in their method of using those details. I expect that Detective Wheeler’s primary concern, in future eps, will be grounding Nichols in much the same way that Detective Eames keeps Goren grounded – and like the Watson of Conan Doyle’s original stories, provide a certain toughness and resourcefulness that will keep Nichols on track.

If Rock star is any indication, Law & Order may be about to hit a creative peak. Not bad for a show in its eighth season!

Final Grade: A

The New York Times: Back on the Beat, With a High Q Rating

Mr. Goldblum (who will appear every other episode, alternating with Vincent D’Onofrio) plays Detective Zack Nichols, a former musician and son of Upper West Side psychologists, who left the New York Police Department for seven years after 9/11 to pursue that very un-cop-like ambition of finding himself. “Seven years? Where did he go?” his new partner, Megan Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson), asks their captain, Danny Ross (Eric Bogosian). “Sent me a postcard from Cleveland once,” Ross replies.

Nichols has returned to the force, ostensibly with Zen calm and more of the intuitive brilliance that we are meant to infer as his genetic inheritance. The character is better suited to Mr. Goldblum’s sensibility than the hallucinating detective he played on the short-lived series “Raines,” on which he was required to do too much feeling. Nichols is like Damian Lewis’s Charlie Crews on “Life” but funnier. We are introduced to him this Sunday at a crime scene in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn where he shows up with a bagel, a bowl of grits and a tantric charm, marveling at the neighborhood’s shopping opportunities and getting at its ethnic and racial divisions in a way that leave the preceding moments of plodding exposition completely superfluous.

Mr. Goldblum’s initial scene has the effect of a star’s first walk-on in a stage play: you feel moved to applause. It isn’t merely that Mr. Goldblum is now the marquee name, more famous than the actors around him. It’s also that you trust him to break through the show’s melodramatic solemnity; he signals a kind of first-aid relief. Wheeler, played by the expressionless, pancake-faced Ms. Nicholson, is destined to fade even further into the background than she did with her previous partner, Mike Logan (Chris Noth). And Mr. D’Onofrio’s Detective Robert Goren, with his lugubrious intellect and Rodin poses, is fated to seem even more annoying now that Mr. Goldblum is here, on alternate weeks, to deliver a far more appealing take on how to be a know-it-all.

Yet there he was on a recent Friday afternoon at the Chelsea Piers studios, where “Criminal Intent” is produced, his sinewy, 6-foot-4 frame parked behind the keyboard of a Steinway as he tickled his way through a Gershwinesque composition. The scene that Mr. Goldblum was filming called for his character, an unconventional New York police detective recently returned to the force, to lull a witness into revealing details crucial to a murder investigation.

That his musical skills could actually have this effect on people, Mr. Goldblum later admitted, was “a little bit of poetic license, a leap and a conceit.” But, he added, “I’m supposed to be brilliant, so it’s O.K.”

Jeff Goldblum and Diane Keaton have joined Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams in the J.J. Abrams' produced comedy, "Morning Glory."

The story revolves around a young news producer (McAdams) who has the job of saving a failing morning television program. Ford and Keaton will play feuding co-anchors who have contributed to the show's failure while Goldblum will play the big wig in charge of McAdams.

This film will be helmed by Roger Mitchell ("Notting Hill") and was scribed by Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada"). Filming is set to begin next month in New York.

It's a request for extras to appear in The Baster, a Jennifer Aniston/Jason Bateman romcom about a woman who has a child with a sperm donor only to discover seven years later that the helpful chap was actually – gulp – her best friend. The film, due out next year, co-stars Jeff Goldblum (the quirky doc, perhaps?) and is based on a story by Jeffrey Eugenides, author of The Virgin Suicides and hermaphrodite novel Middlesex.

Soliciting Your Critique On SC

I am trying to really fix up SC and make it look as good as possible. I recently applied at StarsZZ.com for hosting (they give you a free domain name and I'm hoping to get "Goldblum.net" or something along those lines) but I was turned down because, "Your site design, although coming along well, is not of a high enough quality as of yet. You are more than welcome to re-apply at a later date once you have acquired more web/graphic design experience."

This was pretty disappointing at first, considering I actually work as a graphic designer and have been doing it since I was eleven, but it's true SC doesn't look as good as it should and I've decided to take it as a challenge.

I'm pretty attached the basic layout and don't want to change it too much, but let me know what your ideas are.

Are there any little (or big) things about the site that bug you?

Is the head banner too big?

Is the whole site too wide? (I originally made it wide thinking I would have a "banners" page for people to use on forums but I still haven't gotten around to it. Still, if it is too wide, I cold always put those in the gallery or just make them pop up in larger windows for the full size.

What about the navigation bar? Do you think the text there should be smaller?

What about the main page? Do you think that it looks to cluttered?

Lay it on me. :) While I like the site pretty well for the most part how it is (and really like seeing the big header banners of Jeff when I'm on it (Ha ha) I would be ready to do a completely new design if that's the best way to go.

The following poem was written after I watched Mr. Frost for the first time last night. What a spectacular film! I can not understand why it is so hard to find and not well known. I thought it was completely enthralling and thought provoking and will write a review up of it soon!

In the mean time, here is my poem...

About a year and a bit ago, I had press seats to go see a Broadway play called Mauritius. I took my friend Anne. After it ended, I was standing in the street making a phone call when Jeff Goldblum exited the theater. He stopped, looked me up and down, then looked me in the eye to make sure I had seen him, and kept walking. Anne asked me, “Did Jeff Goldblum just give you the once over?” I shrugged, and we started walking in the same direction, toward the subway and Times Square. Part way down the block, he stopped where he was, and when we caught up to him, he said, “Well, hello there.” He introduced himself, asked us who we were and what we thought of the play. All three of us hated Mauritius, and we had a lot to say about it. He had the most to say. He had so much to say, I thought he was on drugs. I looked to Anne, but she shook her head. Sober.

Distributor launches campaign for 'Adam' star

While self-distribution is usually the last resort for indie film, the producers of "Adam Resurrected" have gone a step further. Not content with a simple specialty release, they're paying handsomely for an Oscar campaign around star Jeff Goldblum.
Paul Schrader directed the adaptation of Yoram Kaniuk's novel about a former circus performer and Holocaust survivor stuck in an Israeli mental institution.

While Goldblum's perf was hailed at the Telluride, Toronto and Mill Valley film fests, producer Ehud Bleiberg didn't like the offers they were getting -- namely the proposed release dates. Distribs told him they had too much kudos bait already.

"Why would we screen the film at Telluride and Toronto and release it a year later?" Bleiberg asks.

Bleiberg is no stranger to Oscar nom drama. His last film -- the Israeli hit "The Band's Visit" --seemingly auto-qualified for Oscar consideration after winning the top Israeli Film Academy award. It was later disqualified for having too much English in it.

With "Adam Resurrected," he got a lot of advice from high-profile admirers, including George Lucas, to go DIY. So Bleiberg and co-producer 3L Filmproduktion have committed "a substantial amount" to the pic's award campaign for a shot at best actor.

Full-page ads, 20-plus screenings in N.Y. and L.A., plus 5,000 screeners have been the first salvo, with more to come, Bleiberg promises.

In March, he'll release the pic himself, accompanied, he hopes, by a little Oscar heat.

"There are hardly any specialty companies in L.A. anymore," he says. "We have no choice to but to take our destiny in our own hands."

jeff Goldblum is the biggest drawing event movie star of all time. I know, a statement like that is a hard one to swallow. It either causes you to stare at the page, mouth agape in disbelief or raise an eyebrow in confusion - the name "Jeff Goldblum" having long ago slipped your mind.
And that's the mystery of Mr. Goldblum: all signs point to him having been the biggest star of the 90s, charming millions with his eccentric, staccato method of delivery (if you've truly forgotten him, imagine Shatner as a stereotypical Jewish man) . And yet his time on top clings to people's memories like the sheerest gossamer. All pretension aside, it is no coincidence that the biggest movies of both 1993 and 1996 featured Goldblum in a starring role.

I'm not sure if either of these were the ones worn by Jeff, but they're still pretty cool. The first one reads "Dave Smith" and the second reads "Bob Carson" with "Ronald Radnor" written on the tag. Obviously, David Levinson wasn't a part of the USAF, and I doubt (with their situation being what it was) that they made him his own uniform before he went out, so who knows.. ;)

But wouldn't it be fun to have Jeff's clothes hanging in your closet? ;)
